Her achievements were recognised in a special segment on ITV News — a broadcast that, serendipitously, led to an audition and her film debut in Brick Lane. Two paths opened at once: the scholar’s and the artist’s. She chose to walk both.
At University College London’s medical school, specialising in neuroscience, Fagun experienced a profound revelation: the visual medium could serve as a unique tool for learning, understanding, and healing — reaching people in ways no prescription could. It steered her toward a decisive choice: to blend her medical insight with her artistic flair, and to use the transformative power of the screen to create positive impact in the world.
Fagun won the BBC’s nationwide search for fresh acting talent, ‘Bolly Idol’, against tens of thousands of contestants, and trained in classical acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. After training, she began on London’s West End stage — from Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra and Romeo and Juliet to Chekhov’s The Seagull — before gracing Hollywood and international screens, starring alongside Academy Award winners including Brie Larson, Martin Sheen, and Donald Sutherland. Her filmography, recognised for its intellectual depth and social message, has earned festival selections and awards internationally.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) — the UK’s equivalent of the Oscars — honoured her on its selective Newcomers Program, awarded to international rising stars — and her journey was chronicled alongside legendary actors such as Dame Judi Dench in a book on eight decades of British actors on stage and screen.
Then she stepped behind the camera — training as a film director, with stories of her own to tell. As a writer-director, her craft explores the transformative power of storytelling: purposeful content that educates, inspires, and moves audiences to act.
Born from her research at the University of Cambridge, The Purpose Movie Studio is where she leads today as Founder and CEO — committed to films and documentaries that impact positive change worldwide. Her current work sits at the frontier of artificial intelligence, including Superpower: AI In Our Lifetime, a landmark documentary on the minds shaping AI, now in production. Beyond the studio, her collaborations span the United Nations, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Amnesty International, and the King’s Foundation.
